Well, thank you! For the Nomination…

I was pretty excited to hear I was nominated, along with two other texture creators, for “Best Texture Creator” in the SL House and Garden Group Annual Awards for 2010/2011. When I first heard about this group, and their new sim I thought it was an awesome idea and have been silently following their progress. To be recognized by their group for my work is a nice reward for a couple years of really hard work. I have never been too much into award shows or events because I do not like to single people out, but I realize it is just part of life and business. On that note, there are some amazing creators being recognized, some are even close friends not just in Second Life, but my real life as well. I am very happy to see them doing so well and being honored. I am also super excited to see some of my customers in the line up for awards!

I would be lying if I said I was disappointed that a few creators I have the utmost respect for were not recognized. I know it goes with the territory in regards to award presentations, however I hope that those that were not, and maybe are disappointed, keep in mind it is not a representation of who you are, how much passion you have, or how creative you are- your all those things and more. There are some FANTASTIC, insanely creative people in sl and it is one of the reasons I remain there. I think they should all be honored!  Thanks for the nominations… It gives me drive and yes, a reward. In my mind, I already won just making the list…  Best of luck to everyone.

Yes, I really am working!

I am feeling quite motivated these days and that is a good thing because I have a lot coming up. I have some new texture pack releases on the way! I have also been busy setting up an Etsy store for my Real Life artwork. Also, I am trying to separate my real life stuffs with Second Life as it has caused some confusion with non-slers. And in all honesty sometimes it is difficult trying to explain Second Life! So pretty soon “Distressed Textures” will only be for Second Life so nothing changes for you. And I will have a new business name for my art and photography that is mainly in my real life. And of course the holidays are on the way! As you may have noticed I do not normally put out a lot of holiday themed textures. I wish I could say why! I guess I just figured there are plenty of them out there already. I could be wrong. I get out of cooking for Thanksgiving I am having surgery two days before. I have some special people in my life that I know will make sure I get plenty Thanksgiving  feast. I also have finals coming up, hectic! Just a quick update.. back to work for me.

(Photo: me where you can find me most, my skybox/house. Still loving my La’Licous~ Delilah’s Shabby Chic Greenhouse! Here I am enjoying some tea and toast compliments of Isla Gealach, of Cheeky Pea. I love her breakfast table, all the little details really make the difference for me. I am still collecting chairs from Gala Charron of Art Dummy! I am quite addicted to them. Not only are the chairs mad, clever, genius the poses are adorable. I am standing on my cloud chair! Lastly, I am just not at home if I am not standing in a meadow and only in sl can you have one in the middle of the sky! Pitsch Parx of UrbanizedD makes gorgeous sculpted flowers. Photo overlay by me!)

Shopping at Y’s House

Those that know me would be able to say I am very humble and do not toot my own horn. That being said this may come across as horn tooting but it is not my intention. I want to share this with you as it was a defining “sl” moment for me. That is when I went to Y’s House, who just happens to be another one of my favorite designers and saw them using some of my textures. I guess something told me at that point that I was on the right track and to keep going! I have seen some of these cabinets on Flickr in very well decorated sl homes and I definitely love seeing this! Here is me crawling on the furniture at Y’s House, as well as picking out a cabinet for the upstairs bedroom at my shop/house.

Note from Jewell, I will not compete.

Apple Pickng Chair by the clever Gala Charron of Artdummy!

There have been many occasions when I have had an itch to build and create something besides textures in Second Life. I had tossed around the idea of making furniture or trying my hand at clothes. I have three items I made in my shop that are set for sale, a table and chairs, a rug and a fan. I made them ages ago and have not made a single item since. And, I won’t. I will not create furniture or accessories, I will not make clothes, I will only make textures. It is not because I lack motivation, or have no interest in building. I made the choice for one reason alone: I will not compete with my customers. Personally, I think that if I were to build furniture and these items for sale in Second Life it would be a direct conflict of interest. Why would I want to compete with those that have been loyal and supportive? I love creating textures, I love seeing builds with my textures, and I love seeing photos on Flickr that have my textures incorporated in them. That is enough for me, it is the reward. I view this as a partnership with my customers, I make the textures they create the items and we all win. On that note, I want to thank my loyal customers, new found friends, staunch supporters and those that send me note cards or random instant messages showing great love for my work. One of the advantages of not building is I get to support, my supporters by decorating my own home and sim with awesome creations! Check out my new chair! I think we can all agree that one of the best aspects of Second Life is the creative genius’s behind the monitors. Where else can you find an “Apple Picking” chair like this? Thanks again, and be patient with me when it comes to this website it has a long way to go.  xo Jewell (Chair from Gala Charron of Artdummy!, Dandelions are from one of my Fairy Flower packs,  however they are sculpted and sold by Pitsch Parx of UrbanizedD, he makes wonderful meadows!

Showcasing Creators in My Own SL Home

I have a sky box on my sim, (your more than welcome to visit if you can find it).  I love to decorate it with items that are made by creators that have used my textures. Or, even if they have not and I find something I really love it goes in my Second Life home. I am going to post a few shots of some of my favorite areas of my home and try to give credit, where credit is due. Amaliscious Destiny, Owner of La’Licious Designs gave me an adorable greenhouse that I am now using as my “home” I love the cozy feel and the fact that you can purchase it fully furnished. I will be talking about this Greenhouse a few times because it is so charming! Shown in the first two photo is one of my favorite corners. Because it is decorated with some of my favorite art work. Amaliscious as well as Pitsch Parx of UrbanizeD both made gorgeous prints out of one of my limited edition texture packs. Also, note behind the chair is an adorable water faucet and an old style radiator! The faucet is just one of the many little hidden gems in this greenhouse cottage. I have plants from Amaliscious as well as from “Life is Good”.  Almost all the items you see in the living room came with the house! With the exception of some amazing bird figures on the table. The tallest bird figure with nest and eggs is from Amaliscious. The others are from, Pandora Popstar of L.I.S.P. These are just a few of the very talented furniture creators I hope to showcase here! I hope to show you around my house again soon! x Jewell

Amaliscious loves the little details, and it shows in her builds!
